October Flash - Day 13

The Flash Fiction Project at Google+ has something new going on!   There will be a visual prompt for every day in October, and I'm going to try to write a (very) short piece for it every day as well. Due to time zone differences, I'll try writing and posting mine early in the morning, so it's a day after the original post for me, but still the same for them.

Let the fun begin! Here is the prompt for today:

Since she was a little girl, Amanda had wanted to be a princess. Even more so, she had known she'd be one, one day. She had believed in it and dreamed about it and written it down millions of times, until, one day, she had woken up in a huge castle.
Had Amanda known just how much power words, especially those written down, and belief have, she would probably have been more careful. She had not, though, and now she was a prisoner in a huge cage of blue stone, turrets and servants.
Sure, at the beginning she had been thrilled, but it hadn't taken her long to realise that there was one part of being a princess she had always neglected in her stories: the prince. The castle was definitely lacking one, and since it would not open up to the outside world, it was hard to get one.
The reason for this, although she doesn't want to admit it, is Amanda herself. The last man she had mistaken for her prince had disappointed her terribly, and her heart was still shattered when the castle appeared. He had laughed at her desire to be a princess, but this... well, now he couldn't say that she had been childish, right?
Nevertheless, her heart is in pieces and bleeding, and instead of fencing itself off inside of her, it fenced her off as well, with a huge castle of blue stone. All Amanda can do now is sit at one of the many windows and stare out over the cities outside, waiting. With binoculars she tries to make out the faces of people looking up at the castle, hoping that her prince may be among them.
What she has still not understood is that it is up to her to open the castle gates. The princess doesn't know how, so she stays a fugitive and captive of her own imagination.
