October Flash - Day 15

The Flash Fiction Project at Google+ has something new going on!   There will be a visual prompt for every day in October, and I'm going to try to write a (very) short piece for it every day as well. Due to time zone differences, I'll try writing and posting mine early in the morning, so it's a day after the original post for me, but still the same for them.

Let the fun begin! Here is the prompt for today:

"This night walk was a great idea, Patrick," said Sam, linking arms with him. "It's so quiet and peaceful."
"I thought it would be a good opportunity to talk," he replied. "We didn't have much time for each other the last few weeks."
"I know. Life can be so hectic sometimes! Right now, there's only us, though, and we should enjoy that."
"How right you are." He overtook her with two quick strides and pulled her close for a kiss. "I missed you."
Sam wrapped her hands around his neck. "I missed you, too."
After a few minutes which easily qualified as an eternity, they broke apart. Patrick took Sam's hand and started to run.
"Come on, let's move! And tell me, what's happened in your life lately?"
Sam laughed and followed, thinking back on her last few weeks. "Well, what do you want to know?"
"Everything, of course!"
"Careful!"
Just in time, Patrick stopped. There was a huge, muddy puddle before them, spanning almost the entire path.
"Thanks, honey." He gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Think we can jump it?"
Sam giggled. "Maybe at the narrower end."
"Ladies first, then."
"Hey!" She pushed him playfully on the shoulder.
"OK, OK, I'll try first..."
Patrick took a few steps back, ran and jumped. He would have made it easily, too, hadn't there suddenly been a hand grabbing his ankle. He fell straight down into the mud, and farther down, his ankle held in a grip like steel.
Sam screamed. It had happened so quickly, she hadn't been able to do anything... When the hand came back searching for her, she was too terrified to move.
